CES Update

This has been an eventful year for our Center.  We just completed the selection of our eighth cohort of fellows — bringing the total number of people we have supported to forty-nine.  Our 2022-2023 cohort of seven people have had a very productive year.  Six of them will be completing their degrees this summer, and three will be moving on to tenure track jobs this fall at University of Connecticut, Michigan State University, and University of Nevada at Las Vegas.

Three others will be starting post-docs at Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and the University of Virginia, and one of those has also lined up a tenure track job for the following year at Wake Forest University.

We are also just now completing our first year as an independent 501c3 organization.  Up until July of 2022, we were operating under fiscal sponsorship.  Now we are an independent organization with our own board of directors. We have also had a staff change.

Yesenia Sandoval served as program manager for six years before moving on to a more challenging job as a program manager at the Community College League of California.   We are very grateful for her years of dedicated and conscientious work.

We have just hired Amy Peterson to fill this position.  She has over 15 years of experience supporting nonprofits in program management and administration. Most recently she was with Harvard Business School Community Partners of Northern California, where she managed their executive education scholarships. Prior to this she supervised a stipend program at the Education Fund, a nonprofit designed to support healthcare workers who were seeking higher education. Amy earned her B.A. in Psychology at the University of Michigan and her M.S. in Counseling at San Francisco State University.

We have ambitious plans to expand our work over the coming year.   We intend to be more active in helping our past and current fellows disseminate their work and build more links to activist groups.  To support our work and to demonstrate to the IRS that we have funding from multiple donors, we are especially in need of your any dollars that you can contribute.
