Announcement of Position
The Center for Engaged Scholarship seeks to fill the role of President of the organization.
This would be a three-year term with the possibility of renewal. The President’s role is to provide vision and leadership, work with the board to address new challenges and changing times, expand our base of financial support, provide mentorship to our network of current and past dissertation fellows, and maintain relationships with more than three hundred academics who perform the critical role of reviewing applications. The President also supervises the Executive Director who manages the organization’s administration and communication.
For most of the year, the position averages less than 20 hours per week of work. However, there are weeks in December, January, and February during the selection process when the workload approximates full-time. Our ideal candidate would be devoting the rest of their time to their own scholarly work. We offer a 50% salary appropriate for a senior scholar.
The individual we are looking for should have the following qualifications:
- They should be an Associate or Full Professor who has produced a body of scholarship that is known beyond their home discipline and read by activists outside the academy. Their work should reflect a commitment to politically engaged scholarship.
- They should have a strong track record of leadership and effective follow-through in accomplishing projects.
- They should be an effective mentor to students.
- They should be supportive of scholar-activists across the full range of current social justice struggles.
- They should be enthusiastic about working with philanthropists to support the Center’s work.
Applications should be submitted to Amy Peterson via this online form. The application includes:
- Cover letter, which should cover (1) the reasons that this job makes sense as a mid-career professional change (2) the applicant’s view of the type of engaged scholarship that CES should support and (3) their experience with running things and raising money.
- C.V.
- Contact information for four references. We will only contact references when we have a short list.
Applications are due by March 1, 2026, but they will be considered until the search is completed.
