Saverio Roscigno
PhD Candidate, Sociology and Science, Knowledge, and Technology, University of California, Irvine
Saverio Roscigno is a PhD candidate in sociology at the University of California, Irvine. His dissertation is a close examination of conspiracy content creators: people who dedicate great time and energy to disseminating conspiratorial media to online audiences. Drawing on 75 in-depth interviews with these cultural producers - who vary widely in their backgrounds, audience sizes, and areas of expertise - he traces how they evaluate and construct credibility amongst themselves in the face of pervasive suspicions. Furthermore, he specifies the processes through which people become, and remain, so deeply involved in this peculiar social world made possible by online platforms.
In addition to his qualitative work, Saverio's survey research on the prevalence of conspiratorial views across lines of status has appeared in Socius and been discussed in Salon. He has co-authored a forthcoming book entitled QAnon, Capitalism, and the Crisis of Meaning.
