What is the Center for Engaged Scholarship?
OUR MISSION
The Center for Engaged Scholarship supports scholars whose research engages the pressing social, political, and environmental questions of our time. We provide emerging scholars with the resources, community, and intellectual support they need to pursue rigorous scholarship that contributes to a more democratic, equitable, and sustainable society.
OUR APPROACH
We believe scholarship can be both intellectually rigorous and meaningfully engaged with the world beyond the academy. CES brings together scholars across disciplines who use research, teaching, and public engagement to deepen understanding of consequential issues, challenge inequities, and develop new ideas that can contribute to a more just society.
OUR VISION
CES envisions a thriving national community of engaged scholars whose research crosses disciplinary and institutional boundaries and reaches audiences beyond the academy. We seek to strengthen networks among scholars, support emerging intellectual and disciplinary innovations, and expand the possibilities for scholarship to contribute to democratic life and social change.
