Death of a CES Friend

Fred Block | Research professor at U.C. Davis

David Coates, an Anglo-American political scientist, passed away in early August after a brief illness. David had reviewed applications for CES this past year and he had been an exemplary engaged scholar through his long and productive career.

Born in 1946, David taught at Leeds and Manchester in the U.K. before moving to Wake Forest in North Carolina in 1999.

His most recent book is Flawed Capitalism: The Anglo-American Condition and Its Resolution, published by Agenda in 2018. He wrote or edited a wide range of other books addressing British politics, U.S. politics, and the nature of capitalism.

He was a brilliant lecturer and an influential and much admired teacher at Wake Forest. His loss diminishes our community of engaged scholars.
